India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. I always appreciate a restaurant that is open on Sunday as it's usually the night I don't want to cook. We decided to try Star of India because we were in the mood for Indian. When we arrived at 7:30 the restaurant was empty which always makes me worry, but boy am I glad we sat down to eat. The meal was delicious and the gentlemen serving us was very nice. Overall it was a great meal.

It's OK. Not bad and not great. The food is overpriced for the quality and the service is not very welcoming. There are better options. Go to Suvai for takeout/casual setting instead or go to Nala in Exton if you want a nice dining room atmosphere.

Coming from NYC, Indian food is a staple in our lives. We're glad we have star of India in our new town. The food is authentic and delicious. Sure, the atmosphere and decor is a little out dated and you may be the only people eating in the restaurant, but let the food speak for itself. Try the Mulligatawny soup and the chicken tikka.

Westchester Pa Ate here once at this little Indian restaurant. Wasn't my favorite. ;-(

I've eaten at my fair share of Indian restaurants. This is one of my favorites. Consistently good; always fresh and flavorful.

I am a big fan! Tasty, fresh, colorful Indian Food at affordable prices. Decor is plain, but the food is fabulous.

Delicious food, great service. We ordered the tandoori chicken and the chicken tikka masala, and both were awesome. Even better, the prices were very reasonable, unlike most of West Chester's other sit down restaurants. My only recommendation is that they find a way to accommodate more customers during peak times of the day.

According to our relatives from West Chester this place used to be great, but recently started going down the hill. We got take-out for dinner and was very much disappointing. Sauces were very soupy and lacked flavor. Next time we'll be getting indian elsewhere.

As another reviewer noted, Star of India used to be good. My family and I ate there frequently in the last several years and were pleased, but it's been about a year since our last visit. Tonight I was there with my son and we left most of the food uneaten. It was bland, tasteless and chewy and not at all what we were expecting or hoping for. In addition, my son found a hair in his food which wasn't his. We shared our displeasure with the waiter and asked for the bill. I was very surprised when I was charged the full amount, even though we had not touched most of our meal. I asked that the owner take something off the bill but was not pleased when it was less than 25% of the total. We left the restaurant grossed out by the hair, hungry and vowing to never go back.

I have to admit, I was pretty enthusiastic to try Star of India when I first came to West Chester. From the outside the restaurant has all of the visual charm of a good, mom and pop joint and since I had been craving some good indian food after a long drought from it in my small hometown, I was excited to dive in and enjoy my favorite ethnicity of comfort cuisine. Unfortunately, the food was so damn spicy that I couldn't even taste it. Now stop, woah there. I know that somebody is going to rip into me for calling indian food spicy. It's supposed to be spicy. I realize this, but just take this as your fair warning: I am a girl who prides herself on loving the spice of life. mild wings? hell no! hot and spicy is the way to go, but at this restaurant it's either go fiery spicy or go home. Actually this is only partly true, upon ordering you will be given the option of ordering your food mild, medium, or spicy. I ordered medium chicken tikka masala, a good creamy tomato chicken dish, and received a mouthful of hellfire. The good news is that the hellfire was actually not completely terrible. In fact, I will venture to say that the hellfire tasted moderately decent. The price of Star of India's food is okay, but not stellar, especially not for a college student's budget. Expect to spend somewhere in the neighborhood of $15-20 per person. Actually... expect to spend $20 because if you do decide to brave the fire and go there then you will have to order their naan, because it is absolutely delicious and not just moderately okay like everything else that I had when I went there. CONCLUSION: Star of India: catch your mouth on fire for the price of a meal! quality: moderately decent price: more than I would like to spend for a burning mouth

This is my favorite Indian place! Their chicken shahi korma is absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend this place.

I am always doubtful about Indian restaurants in small cities. I am afraid of the lack of authenticity, the lack of flavor and the lack of freshly made food. Star of India in West Chester successfully met all my fears! I've been here twice with some co-workers and both times have had a pretty bad experience with the food. The appetizers have always been cold and taste like something that was either made in the morning or the night before and quickly heated in the microwave (or not even that). Making a good juicy, tender kabab is difficult to master, but one will never achieve this when the kabab is not freshly grilled! At this point it will be like chewing a piece of rubber with some spices blended into it! I would not recommend this place to anyone, instead have sushi at the restaurant next door (Kooma) or get a good burger at Landmark Americana across the street. If you still want Indian food, do yourself a favor and drive to either King of Prussia or Philly!

I certainly would rate Star of India a decent meal. The food has always been fresh, honest fare, typical of Western-style Indian restaurants. A typical BYOB, prices are reasonable. The dreadful college places nearby are fine for a certain lifestyle, but if you want a nice leisurely meal with friends and can bring a great bottle with you, you will not be disappointed. West Chester has several Indian restaurants, all are OK, but this one is the most comfortable to me.

Best restaurant in West Chester. It's our regular spot and never fails us. The food is always amazing and as spicy (or not spicy) as your little heart desires. Bring your favorite hoppy beer and adventuresome attitude and you're in for a great night. I recommend the chicken palak and chicken tikka masala.

It's very difficult to rate this restaurant, so let me try to be fair. First of all, it's right next door to Kooma, a bustling sushi restaurant that is trendy by West Chester standards (it's pretty cool even otherwise). This doesn't mean that any of this coolness oozes next door coz Star of India is definitely not a cool restaurant. But it is a good restaurant. Here's why. There's the owner and his wife (I presume ... ) and some kitchen help. They don't have any customer service skills, and have, over the years, picked up a few. Their marketing is almost non existent, and the often close on a whim (rain, snow, lunch time, siesta etc.) When they are open, it's rare to see more than 4 people eating in there and so it's easy to discount their food. However their food is pretty decent. I'm Indian - I'll tell you straight up that their food isn't awesome, it's pretty decent. I tried several of their dishes on the menu, and took my brother there. We both were satisfied - the food was amply spicy, and while the lady (she's on the rather large side) was at first very sour to us, she was polite and eventually even smiled. The place is clean, or it seems clean everywhere we looked. There isn't much to look at. I've finally concluded that when I go there, I order their Dal Makhani, without the Makhan (which is Ghee, or heavy butter - very fatty but tastes great), and some roti (unleavened bread) without butter. That's very satisfying. For those guys who might be interested, I've spotted some very good looking girls outside this restaurant, but strangely, not within. Also one point - their service isn't particularly fast - they have only two wait staff - the man and woman who own the place.

The food was tasty, not the best I've had, but not the worst. I've had spicy Indian food and loved it but wasn't in the mood for it on this occasion so I requested mild spices. The spice level was as requested -- mild (no "hellfire"). The service was quite slow but very pleasant and accomodating. The prices are typical for Indian food which I always consider kind of high -- but then the portions are generous too so I'm not complaining.
